The 21st Century Library
I was always a little concerned in elementary school that the library was called the "media center." It's like the grown-ups didn't know how to properly label the rooms in the school. The library was a fun place to go listen to our tall, eye-fluttering librarian expound on the many nuggets of wisdom to be found in children's books at the time, while we all sprawled leisurely around the Inca-inspired reading pit.
Now, years and many dollars later, I come to find out that there are other resources -- media, if you will -- that are found in the library. And they are found in abundance! Did you know that the public library will RENT you computer games?! Haha, this was a life-changing revelation for me about 2 weeks ago, when I discovered Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Colonization sitting on the shelf -- this game that had been out for a matter of months was sitting there, waiting for me to take it home and enjoy it for the next 3 weeks. Well, I did just that. I was also sure not to leave the library without querying the digital dewey decimal system to compile a list of future conquests. I think I'll make it a point to visit the library, er media center, more often.
