A New Morality
Love, dedication to, and activitism for the environment seems to be the new morality. People all feel the need to belong to something important, to uphold some standard. As the general moral fabric of peoples' lives and thus society falls into disrepair, people are grasping for meaning and stability. Somehow, environmentalism has gained prominence enough to take the spot and fulfill the need, for some, that standards of morality have filled traditionally. I believe the earth is a wonderful gift from God and must thus be cared for appropriately by all of us as good stewards. I think that there are obvious instances of abuse, but overall my feeling is that there is a great movement toward environmentalism, exaggerated far beyond the actual problems we face in the ecological arena. And the fervor of individuals flocking to the banner of environmentalism seems much more intense and visible than the group of people that seek to reinstate traditional moral values that are being quickly forgotten.
