Things as They Really Are

So applicable to me! Oh... wait. I'm off to play with Mackenzie...

Baba Yetu

A song that I really like from a game I really like just won a Grammy (nominee #86). First track from video game soundtrack to ever win.

Humble Bundle

Pick your price for a pack of 5 indie games. Perks: Plays on PC, Mac, and Linux; DRM-free, w00t! Braid has some mind-bending puzzles. Machinarium has some sweet art. I'm not sure about the others.

Update

This sweet bundle has now made about $1.3 million. The offer has been extended til Christmas. And now, they've thrown in the first bundle. Totally sweet!

Pre-Integer

There is but a day left before Dallin enters a whole new set of numbers. Well, that's assuming that he was never age 0 and that he was never negatively aged. Whatever the case, what a special time of life before he officially comes of whole number age. Here are a few fun snapshots.

Game Night With Shelleys

Grandma and Grandpa Shelley came over, plus Alinda, whom you won't see in the pictures because she took them all. It was fun to see them all! We played "girl games", as Craig liked to put it. I'd have to agree. They all have a certain feel to them. Why don't we play Bang! next time instead. :)

Dawn of Discovery Intro

This intro movie has a cool blend of 2D and 3D art that makes it very fun. I like the bg music too!

Loom Child

Loom is a fabulous Lucasarts adventure game from 1990, sporting the then-awesome scumm game engine for which their games were famous for. I just played the VGA/voice version, gifted to me almost unwittingly by my friend Josh. It was fun to see it again and play it for the first time with the voices.

Being sick does have its advantages... among them, even more pampering from a loving wife and having some r&r time for an old classic.

Dreams Reborn

A childhood adventure lives again. Today at E3, The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition was announced. This game is a classic! And now remade in full... 2D. Hehe, no, the graphics look nice. I was a little disappointed to see the character movement. C'mon... modern technology must be utilized. The backgrounds were nice. I think it'll be fun. Ant, then we can beat the Sword Master over New Years again. :)

Winter Visit

Well, the parents came on down to make sure that we were still alive and enjoying life. We had a great time, as we always do, with them. We played games together, saw Pirates of Penzance in Draper and ate lots of good food!

Spinergistic

Spinergy is a fun word game that has easy and flexible rules but seems to provide good laughs. We've played it at a couple family gatherings and with friends

Basically, the rules are thus:
1. A 3 ring board is spun, lining up 3 words.
2. A situation card is chosen
3. Before the timer is out, write a composition that uses all 3 words in their exact form, fulfilling the situation on the card.
4. As everyone else writes, the person who is "it" writes down 5 other words that they suspect will be used.
5. Everyone reads their responses; if the 5 other words were used, the response is invalid; points awarded according to situation difficulty.

Read on to check out some of the situations you'll find...

Music of Goo

Hey all ya happy people! As previously posted, there's a great new indie game out called World of Goo. It's fun, it's quirky, and a large part of that fun is created by the great soundtrack. And now, that soundtrack is available for download! And best of all, it's free!

Get it here.

I thoroughly enjoyed it while playing the game. Hopefully it's as good thru iTunes.

The 21st Century Library

I was always a little concerned in elementary school that the library was called the "media center." It's like the grown-ups didn't know how to properly label the rooms in the school. The library was a fun place to go listen to our tall, eye-fluttering librarian expound on the many nuggets of wisdom to be found in children's books at the time, while we all sprawled leisurely around the Inca-inspired reading pit.

Now, years and many dollars later, I come to find out that there are other resources -- media, if you will -- that are found in the library. And they are found in abundance! Did you know that the public library will RENT you computer games?! Haha, this was a life-changing revelation for me about 2 weeks ago, when I discovered Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Colonization sitting on the shelf -- this game that had been out for a matter of months was sitting there, waiting for me to take it home and enjoy it for the next 3 weeks. Well, I did just that. I was also sure not to leave the library without querying the digital dewey decimal system to compile a list of future conquests. I think I'll make it a point to visit the library, er media center, more often.

World of Goo!

It's probably not hard to imagine that a certain computer game has recently caught my fancy. It's a fun, quirky, ultra-stylized casual gaming feast, and it's full of GOO!

I just ran across this the other day, and independently developed game on a few game review sites that's grabbing up editors choice and very high review scores. From the screenshots, I immediately thought of a fun online physics-based game Fantastic Contraption.

Hehe, try it out! There's a nice 30 Mb demo with 12 or so levels here.

Give me Indian Red!

This is about the best reason I've seen to get a touch screen computer. :)

Hehe, it makes me laugh. It looks fun.

So Goes the Saga

Where have we been all our lives? We've been partying away, and now share a little bit -- in fast forward.
