A New Morality

Love, dedication to, and activitism for the environment seems to be the new morality. People all feel the need to belong to something important, to uphold some standard. As the general moral fabric of peoples' lives and thus society falls into disrepair, people are grasping for meaning and stability. Somehow, environmentalism has gained prominence enough to take the spot and fulfill the need, for some, that standards of morality have filled traditionally. I believe the earth is a wonderful gift from God and must thus be cared for appropriately by all of us as good stewards. I think that there are obvious instances of abuse, but overall my feeling is that there is a great movement toward environmentalism, exaggerated far beyond the actual problems we face in the ecological arena. And the fervor of individuals flocking to the banner of environmentalism seems much more intense and visible than the group of people that seek to reinstate traditional moral values that are being quickly forgotten.

Americanism

Dennis Prager, speaking at a Q&A at University of Denver, states the greatest threat to America today and frames the current political climate and debate. My current feeling is that his answer to the question posed is heart-felt, accurate, and motivational. It makes me want to ensure that I know what I stand for, what this country really is, and what I need to do to make a better America and a better American family.

George Washington

Greatness of moral character, forthright honesty, quiet modesty, thoughtful consideration for others, thoroughness, kindness and generosity! During the American Revolution, and for more than fifty years thereafter, young Americans were inspired to attain these qualities by the vivid recollections of men who had served with George Washington.

Yes on Prop 8

The battle over the legalization of gay marriage continues to rage. For the future of our children, I pray that this evil will be curbed and not embraced by our society. I saw one of our designers working on this site the other day, so I looked it up tonight: PreservingMarriage.org. It's an official pro-Prop 8 site for the church. The stance of the Lord and His church in this matter is so firm, so right. I think that most people can really sense that. The pull of the world to be progressive and "tolerant" is, however, amazingly strong. I love the last video, which sounds much like a talk we heard in conference, where the girl says that Jesus taught the higher law of tolerance as love and forgiveness, not tolerance for sin.
